Albany Jazz Band

May 21, 2017, 2:00pm - May 21, 2017, 5:00pm

The Dance Palace

THE ALBANY JAZZ BIG BAND under the guidance of Musical Director and Conductor, Bob Levenson, presents a clear, swinging, and modern big band sound. This year’s performance at the Dance Palace in Pt. Reyes Station will be the seventh annual dance concert. The band plays regularly at other community events all around the Bay Area. Repertoire consists of classic big band swing by the great bandleaders and arrangers; blues, bossa nova and latin, bebop and post bebop music of the 60’s and later. The band plays great danceable music, and features fine local jazz vocalists and instrumental soloists. This concert is FREE to the public and coincides with the closing of the 12 x 12 Art Show & Silent Auction and the welcoming reception for new Dance Palace Executive Director Bonnie Guttman.

Bay to Breaking for the News Fundraiser

May 21, 2017, 8:00am - May 21, 2017, 9:30am

San Francisco, CA

This year my annual B2B training and participation has me "Bay-to-Breaking for the News". Combining three of my personal passions (Latin America, journalism and running), the 106th Bay to Breakers 12K run on Sunday, May 21st will be the inaugural fundraising event for The Intrepid News Fund...putting independent journalists on the ground in Latin America. With our first story financed and committed for publication, we continue to grow our fund to finance travel, ground and research costs for journalists developing under-reported hard-news and human interest stories throughout the Americas. $5,000 puts one journalist on the ground; $10,000 two...you get the idea!
